Mission Statement
The Katherine Elizabeth Foundation exists to provide hope, support, and healing
to the families that have encountered a negative or fatal parental diagnosis through
the term of their pregnancy and after birth, and in the event of the death of their infant child.
What is the Katherine Elizabeth Foundation?
• We are a Florida not-for-profit corporation, presently seeking 501c (3) status.
• We rely on the generous donations and gifts from individuals and corporations, grants, and funding raising charity events.
• We are made up of parents, nurses, doctors, and friends who have lived through a negative or fatal diagnosis, and who decided to continue their pregnancy, bring their baby’s into this world, and some of us have suffered the loss of their infant child.
• We help expecting parents that have been giving a negative or fatal parental diagnosis who wish to continue their pregnancy no matter what the outcome maybe, by providing support and resources to the expectant parents.
• We provide aid and support in healing of the parents who have lost an infant child during pregnancy, through stillbirth, or shortly after birth, with grief and bereavement counseling.
• We want to make sure that parents faced with this difficult news know they are not alone in their journey and they will always having a willing listener to comfort them.
The Katherine Elizabeth Foundation Vision
I. Educating the expecting parent of the diagnosis given to their baby-
1. Providing information of the specific diagnosis through pamphlets, web-sites, and other resources so that the expecting parent can be equipped with the information on all the symptoms and most probable outcomes for their baby.
2. Helping the expecting parent in making a Birth Plan that will establish the rights that a parent has in deciding what type of treatment and options are selected for their baby once born.
3. Providing the expecting parents with a mentor who has faced the same or similar diagnosis so that they can be provided information and support.
4. Provide expecting parent an initial gift of love to honor and recognize that their child is precious no matter what the outcome. They will also receive support books, pamphlets, and list of resources for their individual diagnosis.
II. Helping parents through the loss of their child-
1. Provide grief and bereavement counseling to parents in an atmosphere where they can feel free to talk, cry and not feel they need to hide their pain of the loss of their baby; and create support groups where possible.
2. Provide funds for funeral or related expenses on a case by case basis.
3. Helping parents hold on to as many memories as possible by providing them with a disposable cameras, and memory book so they can cherish the memory of their infant child.
III. Working with medical professionals-
1. Develop a biannual seminar workshop for medical health care professional to enhance their awareness of compassion toward parents that are given a negative or fatal parental diagnosis.
2. Providing hospital NICUs with a small gift to the parents who lose their precious baby that includes a Katherine's bunny provided by Gemma's Bear, disposable camera, and support material as well as the location and time where the Katherine Elizabeth Foundation can provide free grief counseling.
3. Provide local OB-GYN offices and Parinatologist offices with the Katherine Elizabeth Foundation information and brochure, so that parents might benefit from our resources and services.
